An Afternoon at FERN
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well,” Virginia Woolf.
FERN Community Centre Fremantle, Western Australia
Location: Corner of Montreal and High Streets Fremantle, WA 6160
Stella and some of the Tribe set off on Sunday to discover a rustic gem!
First impressions
Walk into a wild hippy garden with chickens hunting for food, cats sleeping and cabbage butterflies fluttering all around. The bike exchange also greets you, and what a fabulous, practical yet quirky idea! If you need a bike take one, if you have a spare bike, donate one. Love it.
Cuisine
Down the path and tucked amid the trees is the café entrance. Drinks are $4-$8 for cold mochas with nut milk, fresh pressed juices and super smoothies. Meals are $12-$14 with the menu offering a variety of raw, vegan, organic foods including wraps, falafel, quiche and pizza – all served with salads. Make sure you save room for a cheeky dessert and may I recommend the berry cheesecake. Berryliscious!
Service
Warm, friendly and welcoming. The lady that served us knew every ingredient in their food. They were happy to cater to allergies and alter what they could to please.
Ambience
Lush and edible garden meets community farm. Indoors there are couches and outside a scattered selection of tables and chairs to choose from while soaking up the sunshine.
Highlight
Peace, calm and serenity surrounded us as we dined with Mother Nature and devoured our raw delights. The Tribe was Berry Impressed. We will be back!
