Your Best Threesome Ever: Soul, Spirit & Tribe
What are you doing today for your Soul, Spiritual practice and your Tribe – to be of Service?
This is a question I live and work by. The reason it is so important is that it covers the three fundamental relationships in your life that you want to invest in daily; for balance, peace of mind, and to show up as the brightest version of yourself – not only for yourself but for those around you.
The 3 Relationships You Need To Be In
Soul
This is investing in YOU. Also known as the True Self relationship. Your relationship with self is the longest and most important relationship of your entire life! You may have been conditioned to believe that serving yourself first is selfish, at the dinner table it may be, but not when it comes to serving your soul. In order for you to be of the greatest service to your loved ones, career, community, tribe, you need to be a full cup first. You need to nourish yourself, honour and support, nurture, love, respect and inspire yourself in all the ways you do others.
To do this
Learn how to say ‘yes’ to yourself and ‘no’ to others – to do this ask yourself before you respond to an invitation / question; is this in alignment with my integrity? Then respond from a place of compassion and loving kindness.
Know when to take a rest – and do so!
Take yourself out on a date
Read a book
Have a social media detox – Try 1-7 days. Your Soul will tell you how long it wants if you ask!
Take a dance class you’re interested in
Have some undisturbed alone time
Ask yourself
What lights me up? What makes me come alive? What turns my soul on? How do I feel most inspired? What can I do today to fuel my soul? Then take action from there! It may be five minutes or five hours depending on the time you have on any given day.
*Keep in mind: This can be challenging in intimate relationships when you want to or, are asked to always be there and be available. But you can’t be your brightest version of you if you are running on empty. Neither can you authentically live from heart and soul if you deeply desire quality alone time and you aren’t creating this. Let go of the guilt you may hold and honour this need by investing in yourself and blocking this time out daily. Your entire approach to life can shift; physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, sexually when you set firm boundaries of ‘Soul Time’ to do or be how you need, in your own way, just for you. This is a gift that others benefit from too when they see you calmer and more patient, more open and willing to assist, once you feel more nourished and balanced yourself. This is key to a life of service too.
Spirit
This is the way you connect to the Divine / Goddess / God / Source / Universe and how you practice that connection, daily. Connecting with ‘Spirit’ allows you to be a channel. Clear and free from the noise of everything else around you. In your monkey mind this practice is your purification, the daily cleansing of your being to allow the ‘downloads’ and inspiration to flow through you.
Try explore this relationship
On the yoga mat
In daily prayer
Singing and chanting
Channelling in your journal
Going to a sacred place – Like the ocean / a park / a space in your home you have set up
In Meditation – Ideally with a personal mantra/word or silent mindfulness, (not with a spoken/guided meditation – there is a place for this indeed, but it is not to replace actual mindfulness and meditation practice).
*Keep in mind: To develop your concentration in preparation for authentic meditation pick one thing/item to focus on in your minds eye – such as a candle, a flower, or even an element such as fire. Devote your thoughts to only revolve around that. What it is made from, its form, its texture, its scent, what it does etc. Only two-five minutes to start. You can then word to building to 15 minutes in time to come. Be real with yourself. When you fall off the focus item keep bringing your attention back but do not force yourself to hard. Be gentle yet firm and flow with it best you can. This is an art that may well take a lifetime to master. Small, consistent steps with progress mean far more than sitting on a meditation cushion in lotus pose for 20 minutes day dreaming about what you want to eat or that next task you need to get onto.
Ask yourself
How do I connect with Spirit? What is my favourite practice to connect with Spirit? How will/have I connected with Spirit today? What is a new way of opening up myself as a channel for Spirit I would love to explore?
Tribe
Your connection to your beloved, loved ones, tribe and community in a loving way while being of service to them in small and grand ways every day is also an investment in you. This is as essential for your happiness, wellbeing and soul evolution as much as it is theirs. This is the power of giving and receiving. It must be both for the cycle to work and run smooth. This exchange of energy, of loving kindness and compassion, can be achieved in numerous ways.
Try
Preparing and sharing a meal
A conversation – Checking in how your beloved / Tribe member is – sharing and exchanging advice if asked
Making love
Setting a ‘date night’ or catchup
Going for a walk together – To get into nature and away from distractions
Hugging – Just holding each other. For men it is often key to be fiercely present in body, heart and mind when ‘giving’ this loving embrace. For women, soften to receive, feel into the experience as you melt into being held. (Roles can reverse if/when desired).
Listening – Holding sacred space for your loved one who may just need you to attentively be present and let them express (not project onto you).
Offering to help – With a move of home, co-writing an important letter, doing the dishes etc
…and infinite other ways.
Ask yourself
How do I love to connect with my beloved, my loved ones and my tribe? What connection have I made today with my loved ones? How can I show/demonstrate my love and be of service to my tribe?
Filling yourself up like a chalice or watering can by standing still and allowing the rain to pour into you is soul and spirit fuel and allows you to be more present, joyful and in harmony with your life and your tribe. Once you are feeling ‘full-filled’ your ‘fullness’ of soul and spirit will overflow naturally and you will desire to share with your Tribe.
Investing in these three relationships has the power to change your life. Pay attention to which relationship you need to invest in most right now and ensure that each of these is nourished and healthy so you and your relationships can flourish!
If you are after a ‘renewed you’, there is no greater way then starting from within and honouring that commitment to your self every day, the best way you can. For if you want ‘full-filling’ relationships, someone to ‘be there for you’ it all starts from within; by showing up every day for yourself first and foremost and expanding the love and joy from there.
